The Freedom Convoy arrives in Brussels
A month after it started in Canada, the famous “Freedom Convoy” will take to the roads of Europe this Monday 14 February, heading for Brussels. All citizens concerned about the restriction of fundamental freedoms in the context of the health crisis are invited to join it.
Whether by lorry, car, motorbike or bicycle, the movement announces, regardless of age or social background, everyone is welcome to take part in this “peaceful and solidarity-based”citizens' initiative, the Convoy's coordinators declare.
Restoring freedom of movement
The message it carries? To denounce the incoherent and contradictory measures of the covid crisis and the obstacles they pose to human rights on European soil. Through this convoy, the movement symbolises the desire to restore freedom of movement for all citizens throughout Europe.
Above all, the convoy is calling for “the end of all freedom-destroying measures and legislation”, namely the pandemic law, mask-wearing, the health pass, the Walloon “pandemic” decree, etc.
Going even further
It also carries other wishes: the setting up of independent commissions of inquiry into the health crisis and its management. Regarding the anti-covid vaccines, it campaigns for their experimental nature to be recognised and for transparency about possible side effects. It also insists on everyone's right to have access to healthcare and to be able to make decisions about their own health.
It also intends to recall other fundamental rights that it considers have been flouted: medical confidentiality and the protection of personal data, freedom of expression – notably of the press – and the right to “a real participatory democracy”. More generally, the Convoy defends other values that are said to have suffered during the crisis.
“The quality of life of European citizens is falling sharply because of the financial situation of the European Union: public and bank debts have been impoverishing peoples for many years. The health crisis has made the situation even worse, depriving citizens of their fundamental freedoms, preventing some from practising their profession with dignity, from accessing healthcare or from travelling. Children's education, development and well-being have also been severely affected. (...) Like the Canadians, we will not be satisfied with promises or half-measures,”the coordinators conclude.
