Covid vaccines: the plight of the victims shocks the British

After the "Lockdown Files"[1] revealed in 2023 by The Telegraph, the plight of the victims of the anti‑Covid vaccines is inflaming the British press.
Have you heard about it in the French or Belgian media?! There was a time when they were quicker to roll up their sleeves…
BAM keeps you informed.

16,000 compensation claims pending

The United Kingdom is facing an avalanche of compensation claims for after-effects attributed to the anti‑covid vaccines. 16,000 claims awaiting compensation have been lodged with the VDPS (Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme), set up in 1979. The scheme received fewer than 6,500 claims before 2020, of which 988 were compensated. Since 2020, there have been no fewer than 15,800 new claims, almost three times more than in 40 years of operation[2]. The BBC has just broadcast a report on the plight of these victims, left behind after an injection that was nevertheless touted as safe and effective[3].

Faced with this glaring state of affairs, families of victims supported by Vaccine Bereaved and Injured UK (Vibuk) met Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, and Andrew Gwynne, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health, on 11 September, to draw the government’s attention to the inhumane delays imposed on victims and to the insufficient flat-rate amount of compensation[4].

The current “compensation”, set at 120,000 pounds and not index-linked since 2006, would reach 197,000 pounds if it kept pace with inflation[5]. This flat-rate amount remains insufficient to cover the costs associated with severe lifelong disabilities.

At the current rate, it would take 100 years to compensate all the victims

In its 18 August edition, the Daily Mail mentions “175 payouts, 97% for AstraZeneca”[6] and the same newspaper’s article of 27 October reports 188 payouts[7], only 5 of them for Pfizer and Moderna. That is 13 payouts in just over two months. At this rate, it would take more than 100 years to examine and compensate the 15,800 pending claims.

Labour announces a plan to reform the victim support system

Faced with this tidal wave, the Sunday Telegraph reveals that the services are overwhelmed and announces that the government is working on a plan to help the victims[8]. Since last year, the VDPS has taken on 80 staff, whereas it previously had only 4[9]. There are also plans to revise the compensation criteria, as the current scheme only covers people with a disability rate above 60%. The BBC thus reports that one victim received no compensation because she had lost only one eye following the injection[10].
