RTBF hands out diplomas
RTBF reviewed the epidemiological situation on the programme “Le Parti Pris” on Matin Première this Tuesday, 19 October 2021.

To do so, the national broadcaster quite naturally called on epidemiologists.

Except that a quick check reveals that:
- Sophie Lucas is not an epidemiologist.
She is an immunologist specialising in cancers.

- Emmanuel André is not an epidemiologist.
He specialises in clinical microbiology.

Epidemiologist is a title corresponding to a training programme, details of which you will find via the SIEP:

To be an epidemiologist, you therefore need to have completed a degree programme delivered by the school of public health.
In January on La Vérité du Moment, RTBF's director of News and Sports, Jean-Pierre Jacqmin, stated about experts: “…we check their scientific rigour, their background and their actual work”: https://youtu.be/c397X8JkHGA?t=11
Yet there is no shortage of epidemiologists in Belgium.
Matin Première could, for example, have invited Yves Coppieters…
unless the guests' opinions take precedence over their expertise.
It therefore seems that in Belgium there are two ways to get your diploma:
Study … or be invited on RTBF.
